Thousand Lake Mountain GPX Track

I need to offset my substantial website costs somehow! You can download a hike/drive GPX to assist you here. Before sharing my GPX tracks with others, please remember my site is otherwise a free resource.

Thousand Lake Mountain is a high-prominence peak in Utah, quite a bit away from anything else of significance. The drive out was fine for any vehicle, and the area is really pretty. I started around the north side of the grassy and mostly dried up Snow Lake, navigating ample cattle cowpies along the way. I reached the start of the Snow Lake Trail, which began at treeline. The trail is easy to follow, but in rough shape. Rocky and steep, I ascended west along the slope of Thousand Lake Mountain. The trail hits a junction with an old forest road and continues just on the opposite side. From here the trail continues mostly flat for a short time before making a steep set of tight switchbacks up to the rim.

Once on the rim, I checked out the lovely views to the desert floor far below to the east. The trail ends at the rim, but a cairn pointed me in the right direction, generally leading southwest. The cairns didn't last long and I continued wandering through forest and meadows for a half mile until I reached the base of Thousand Lake Mountain's summit boulder knoll. Surrounding the summit is an area of open grasses, which provides a great views toward the lovely Utah landscape. Minor Class 2 boulder-hop to the high point.

Wandering through forest and meadows. There's no one "best" way, but I recommend trying to stick to open terrain when possible to avoid having to hop over logs and forest detritus.
