Progeny Peak and Two Pines Arch GPX Track

I need to offset my substantial website costs somehow! You can download a hike/drive GPX to assist you here. Before sharing my GPX tracks with others, please remember my site is otherwise a free resource.

Progeny Peak is a short backcountry peaklet on the east side of Zion, complete with excellent views of the area and a sandsotne arch called Two Pines Arch. There are cairns for some of the route, but expect to be route-finding for much of the outing. Starting from a pull-out off UT-9, we headed north along a social trail and entered a minor drainage. Avoiding a few dryfalls, we made our way to the base of Progeny Peak, where we could make out Two Pines Arch above.

Class 2 slickrock took us a couple hundred feet to the vertically-oriented arch, positioned next two a couple of pine trees. Just behind the arch is a chasm that hugs cliff face. Keep left of the chasm and head up a series of Class 2/2+ ledgy blocks. Above these blocks the terrain continues ascending in Class 2 mode, where route-finding becomes a bit trickier. The slope is wide, which meant we could wander along the slabs, but we cotninued ascending and the scrambling never exceed Class 2/2+. Once we reached the northwest ridge of Progeny Peak, we continued on a slab to the summit.

If you're interested in a more adventurous and longer outing with an approach for Progeny Peak from the north, check out my Bighorn Peak, Progenty Peak trip report from a few years after doing this hike.
