Starting the hike along Forest Road 213.
For such a length road walk, it was pretty enjoyable due to the scenery.

Class 2 initially. The brush was not as bad as it looked from below.
View down as we navigate tiny cliffs and brush within the gully .
Sure, there was some brush, but the scrambling was fun enough to make up for it.
View back down at the top of the gully.
Tortilla Mountain - South Peak just ahead. The high point is located just south of the top of the gully.
Tortilla Mountain - South Peak, view toward a false summit of Tortilla Mountain (right) and Malapais Mountain seen left.
After backtracking, we started into the basin seen ahead on the east side of Tortilla Mountain. Ben and I headed up the slope weakness seen center, but Whiley wrapped around on the far left, following the route of previous hikers.
A relatively easy-to-navigate drainage led us to the base of the slope.
