Lost Horse Mine is a cool piece of well-maintained history within Joshua Tree National Park. This loop hike visits the mine while it wanders through pretty desert scenery. I hiked the loop clockwise, ascending to the Lost Horse Mine along a road converted to trail. A short spur trail leads up to the historic spot, a cool look at a late-1800s gold mine. Just past the mine is a social trail that is easy to locate and follow, leading up to Lost Horse Mountain. This is a great overlook toward the surrounding desert. The loop then continues through the hills, passing an old stone chimney and some excellent views of the landscape.
