Trip report
May 10, 2014 — Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in Texas and a popular destination in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. A pretty straighforward and well-traveled trail takes you to the summit, which has views toward the impressive El Capitan to the south and a flat and mostly featureless desert stretching as far as you can see. I first hiked Guadalupe Peak in May of 2014, but most of these photos are from the second time I hiked the peak, so note that the last few images are green and are more like the expected May lushness, whereas the rest are from February 2018, when I did Guadalupe as an approach for the Guadalupe, Shumard, Bartlett, Bush traverse.
After descending from Guadalupe Peak, I continued north on a spur trail to reach Devil's Hall, a short section of limestone canyon with interesting rock features. I continued along the Devil's Hall Trail back to the Pine Springs Trailhead.
