Grandfather Mountain via Profile Trail GPX Track

I need to offset my substantial website costs somehow! You can download a hike/drive GPX to assist you here. Before sharing my GPX tracks with others, please remember my site is otherwise a free resource.

Grandfather Mountain State Park has some great trails leading up to the high point, Calloway Peak. There are three trails, one from the east via the Daniel Boone Scout Trail, another from the southwest, via the Grandfather Mountain Trail, and this one from the north, the Profile Trail. The Profile Trail trailhead was rerouted, so what is marked on some maps as the trailhead isn't correct.

The trail begins as a well-traveled wide route that gets very popular as it parallels the road and passes over a pretty creek a few times. Then the Profile Trail begins a fairly steep ascent, passing a nice viewpoint and an overlook toward the "profile" of Grandfather Mountain, which sort of looks like a face, I guess.

Some Class 2 boulder-hopping that was quite slippery led to the junction with the Grandfather Mountain Trail, which I followed to the summit of Grandfather Mountain (aka Calloway Peak). A couple of ladders along the summit ridgeline added some fun. I recommend taking the minor detour to see the Watagua View.
