The Chaos Crags Trail leads to Crags Lake, a cute little lake at the base of Lassen Volcanic National Park’s Chaos Crags. The hike is pretty popular due to its relatively low mileage and slow elevation gain. A forested walk leads along a well-developed trail to Crags Lake before opening into a less wooded landscape where the views open up and you can see the towering Chaos Crags above. The lake is colorful and requires a short descent to reach it. I returned the way I came, content with the short introduction to the national park.
