Coyote Peak GPX Track

I need to offset my substantial website costs somehow! You can download a hike/drive GPX to assist you here. Before sharing my GPX tracks with others, please remember my site is otherwise a free resource.

Coyote Peak is a standalone volcanic lump with lots of fun scrambling, though it’s a bummer the peak is located so far from much else of interest. Taking only about an hour, this is a nice warm-up hike. We parked on the northeast side of Coyote Peak and headed toward a minor saddle on the ridgeline’s north side. The slope to reach it was Class 2, and higher up the drainage watercourse was clear of brush and debris, forming a nice terrace-like ascent.

A short Class 3 move brought us to the saddle, where we could continue south along the crest. The terrain proceeded at Class 2 until an initial hump. Here, the ridge soon narrowed and we had to drop a few feet to reach the base of a small gendarme. We wrapped round its left side, finding a Class 2 route to regain the ridge on its opposite side. A fun section of extended Class 3 continued to the summit from here on solid rock.
